Just Wondering 777 asked: I’ve heard accelerating slower, keeping the RPMs low, turning off the A/C, keeping windows rolled up, and many different other things help increase fuel economy. Is this true? And what are some other techniques I can implement to get better gas mileage.

Mr. Q asked: Someone told me there was a year in the 80s when the average fuel economy of all the cars on the road was 30mpg. Is that true? Does anyone know where I can find this information, a chart perhaps? I’d also like to know what the average is this year.

Oxygen-Bar Tender asked: I drive a 2000 Nissan Frontier with a V-6 engine that has the following characteristics in fifth gear with cruise control on the highway: @70 mph= 3000 rpm, @65 mph=2750 rpm, @60 mph= 2500 rpm, @45 mph= 2000 rpm. At what highway speed would fuel economy be maximized while still maintaining a descent speed. The highway I drive on has a speed limit of 70 mph.

J asked: I have a 1987 Scottsdale pickup that gets about 18mpg on the highway. Would my gas mileage take a huge hit with a modest in-bed truck camper? Or is the difference pretty small?
I’m deciding between a truck camper and a “Class B” campervan for basic solo travel. It would be used on many long trips, so fuel economy is probably the #1 factor.
Thanks!
Thanks for the answers so far. Regarding JetDoc’s answer, I would probably never remove the camper from the truck at all.

Tim asked: I’m trying to figure out what is the best option to save gas in the car.
I’ve heard that driving with the A/C on burns 15% of used gas. But does this apply to just the fan running?
